Hackers get 2 for 1, ComCast and Network Solutions.
by The Uni-Hacker on May.30, 2008, under Security
Hackers took over ComCast’s webmail domain, ComCast.Net, and re-routed traffic to various hosting providers. The hackers claim they used an exploit to break into Network Solutions to take control of the domain name. ComCast noticed the domain changes and quickly took action, but the hackers used the same exploit to re-hack ComCast’s domains.
It initially appears to be a password exploit of some kind. Maybe Network Solutions uses un-patched Debian Servers?
Either way, the hackers logged into ComCast’s Network Solutions account to change the domain names. They basically hacked two for one! The scary thing, Network Solutions has no clew how the hackers got the credentials to ComCast’s account. Yikes!
MediaDefender INC, illegally crashing servers.
by The Uni-Hacker on May.30, 2008, under Security
It’s been known for a while that MediaDefender INC has been hired by the anti-downloading companies such as RIAA. In the past their clients have included Sony, Universal Music, and the central industry groups for both music and movies – the RIAA and MPAA. It’s not safe to assume anything, but you can make your own judgments.
Recently MediaDefender has attacked and crash servers belonging to Revision3.com, in an attempt to bring down Revision3’s bit torrent distribution network. (continue reading…)
Sharon Stone target of Chinese Hackers.
by The Uni-Hacker on May.29, 2008, under Security
Chinese hacking websites are calling on hackers to take down the Sharon Stone website. Apparently Sharon said that the recent earthquake in China was due to “bad karma”. She basically told them they deserved it and it was a long time coming. Probably not the best thing to do as Chinese hackers are no joke. They have the resources to bring down just about any web server.
The Chinese love to use distributed denial of service attacks, which you can pretty much do nothing about except change your DNS. That is, if they don’t directly target the IP of your server.
ComCast Hacked?
by The Uni-Hacker on May.29, 2008, under Misc, Security
It appears that ComCast.net has been hacked. Many visitors reported a strange message when going to the site, but some people surfing during the same times says it was working just fine.
The message read
“KRYOGENIKS EBK and DEFIANT RoXed COMCAST
sHouTz To VIRUS Warlock elul21 coll1er seven”
There has been a few reports of weird DNS issues. Some people reported different IP addresses for www.comcast.net making me wonder if this was a DNS hack or if this was some sort of error on the visitors ISP’s DNS servers.
This incodent certainly does make ComCast subscrtibers wonder about the security of their email. With ComCast blocking content, it’s no wonder they got hacked. If you use ComCast email, now is a good time to change your email address.

Russian Nuclear Plant Website Controls hacked.
by The Uni-Hacker on May.28, 2008, under IT, Security
Russian power plants are controlled via websites. The Automatic Radiation Environment Control System (ASKRO), a web based control software system to control nuclear power plants in Russia was brought to it’s knees. The websites apparently fell victim to a Distributed Denial of Service attacked, or DDOS attack. Using the web browser to control nuclear facilities is generally a bad idea anyways, but making that site live on the Internet is just idiotic.
“This was a planned action by hackers, which has brought down almost all sites providing access to the Automatic Radiation Environment Control System (ASKRO), including the Leningrad NPP site, the rosatom.ru site, and others,” says a spokesman for the Rosatom state nuclear corporation.
