Dave & Buster Hacked with Sniffers
by The Uni-Hacker on May.14, 2008, under Security
During a five month period in 2007, Dallas-based Dave & Buster’s reportedly had their database broken into by crackers. The installed packet sniffers on 11 of their servers, sniffing out credit card numbers. Recently my bank has sent me a new debit/credit card because of this as a precaution.
The hackers probably used the pre-installed Linux tool, tcpdump which can dump TCP packets formatted to their desire. How the hackers actually gained access to the servers is another question, but sniffers will do the trick.
