U.K. police to hack with key loggers.
by The Uni-Hacker on Jan.06, 2009, under News
The European Union Council of Ministers approved a plan in November of 2008 that would give U.K. police the power to perform searches on criminal’s computers. A Cambridge University computer security expert said the most likely method that police would hack criminal’s computers would be to enter the criminal’s home and install key loggers on their computers. He also mentioned that they could break into WiFi networks, crack WEP and WPA protected routers while sitting outside the home.
This level of intrustion is more intrusive than any other method of tapping.

Sniper Hill, Satellite Internet in Iraq
by The Uni-Hacker on Jan.05, 2009, under Reviews
If you’re lucky enough to go on a trip to Iraq, and I hope you’re not that lucky, you’ll probably be wondering how or if you can get on the Internet. Recently Camp Echo got a new service provider called Sniper Hill. They provide wired internet access for about $50 per month for the base back for 64kbps. Within the first two hours of subscriber my Ethernet link lights went out, however I understand that they just installed this system the day before so they’re probably just working out the kinks. When the Internet was working I was actually impressed with the speed of the service considering it was a shared satellite connection.
When you get to a camp in Iraq just ask if they have sniper hill.
Overall I am happy with the service.

Secure Websites Vulnerable, SSL cracked.
by The Uni-Hacker on Jan.05, 2009, under News
A hash algorithm, MD5, used for creating SSL certificates for secure websites has been cracked. 200 Playstation 3 consoles were linked together and used as a distributed cracking super computer and it’s estimated that over 14% of the secure websites on the Internet are no longer safe because of this hack. VeriSign, one of the largest secure website certificate providers, rushes to replace all their certificates.
SSL is the security used to protect your information on secure sites such as shopping cart systems and online banking. 200 Playstations is a small price to pay for the ability to hack into these secure websites.
This problem not only effects website certificates, but also anything that uses MD5 such as secure shell, secure FTP and secure email. The MD5 hash algorithm was once thought to have vulnerabilities and now theory has been made into fact.

If you’re a gamer you probably want to have the most optimized Windows XP operating system to play your games. Windows XP by default has many performance hindering options set which greatly reduces the performance of your games under Windows XP. Below are some basic tweaks to Windows XP which should help with the performance of your gaming. These tweaks are for Windows XP only and do not apply to Windows Vista.
Defragging
Defragging your hard drive on a regular basis can greatly increase overall performance of your computer. Right clicking any hard drive will give you a tools menu for defragging the drive.
Turn off effects
All the little start menu fades, sounds and effects use system memory and resources. Turn these off under your display options.
Optimize Virtual memory
On computers with less memory Windows XP will use hard drive space as if it were memory. Upgrade the RAM in your system to prevent Windows from using hard drive space as memory.
