by The Uni-Hacker on Jan.06, 2009, under News
The European Union Council of Ministers approved a plan in November of 2008 that would give U.K. police the power to perform searches on criminal’s computers. A Cambridge University computer security expert said the most likely method that police would hack criminal’s computers would be to enter the criminal’s home and install key loggers on their computers. He also mentioned that they could break into WiFi networks, crack WEP and WPA protected routers while sitting outside the home.
This level of intrustion is more intrusive than any other method of tapping.

Secure Websites Vulnerable, SSL cracked.
by The Uni-Hacker on Jan.05, 2009, under News
A hash algorithm, MD5, used for creating SSL certificates for secure websites has been cracked. 200 Playstation 3 consoles were linked together and used as a distributed cracking super computer and it’s estimated that over 14% of the secure websites on the Internet are no longer safe because of this hack. VeriSign, one of the largest secure website certificate providers, rushes to replace all their certificates.
SSL is the security used to protect your information on secure sites such as shopping cart systems and online banking. 200 Playstations is a small price to pay for the ability to hack into these secure websites.
This problem not only effects website certificates, but also anything that uses MD5 such as secure shell, secure FTP and secure email. The MD5 hash algorithm was once thought to have vulnerabilities and now theory has been made into fact.

300K University of Florida Dental Records Stolen
by The Uni-Hacker on Nov.13, 2008, under News, Security
The University of Florida’s dental computers got hacked and over 300,000 records were stolen. The IT staff at the UOF found unauthorized software installed on the dental clinics server.
Altogether, the hacked information included patient names, addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers and, in some cases, dental procedure information dating back as far as 1990.
The FBI is helping out the University in it’s investigation. The FBI? It seems that the FBI is mostly working on hacking cases these days. The budget for the FBI’s cyber team must be huge.
