EVE Online, whats after Quantum Rise?

by The Uni-Hacker on Nov.12, 2008, under Misc

EVE Online launched their new expansion, Quantum Rise, yesterday expanding the game even more.

The new expansion sports a few speed nurfs, ads a new ship for the carebears, and changes a bunch of modules. The most noted module changes are the MWD / Warp Scram feature where a Scram will now disable the MWD. The speed nurf basically gives missiles a chance to hit ships, taking signature radius more into effect.

The latest rumor for the next expansion are pretty exciting. Rumor is, you’ll be able to do full ship customization with over 3000 possible ship configurations per ship. You’ll need 5 base ship modules to make your ship with tons of the different base modules available.

Other features talked about were planet exploration and habitation and walking in stations.

by The Uni-Hacker on May.06, 2008, under Gaming, Misc

Unlike most EVE macro programs, this is free, and works like a charm. The program is called MacroMaker, and you can set this software up to automatically mine for you. You can download this from the Game Exploits category in our downloads & forums section.

The first thing you do after you install the software and record a macro. You’ll want to get your EVE Online client setup to us the Macro software.

1. Make sure EVE is running in Windowed mode.
2. Setup your overview, people and places and cargo for your ship to be in the same place when you dock and undock from a station. (continue reading…)

Ubuntu 8.04, XFCE, EVE, its slick.

by The Uni-Hacker on Apr.28, 2008, under Gaming

Xubuntu, the XFCE version of Ubuntu is very slick, easy to use, and uses little resources on your computer. I think I found the Ubuntu flavor that can really use. Being an old slackware guy, I decided I didn’t want to compile everything from source. Back in my hardcore days I built custom Slackware distro’s just for my specific hardware, kernel and all. Today, I am older, and I just want to be a user, so I chose Ubuntu ( Xubuntu ) as my desktop Linux.

The installation of the new Xubuntu 8.04 went smooth and everything works just fine. By default, Xubuntu comes with all sorts of wallpapers and window decorations to allow for a fully customized look of your desktop. Looks, is everything for me! :-) (continue reading…)

EVE Online Source for download.

by Hax0r on Apr.23, 2008, under Gaming

eve online source download
The popular MMORP space game, EVE Online, received a blow this week as a disgruntled employee or player has released the client source code on the Internet via turrents. CCP’s response to their source code being leaked, ban people who inquire about it on their forums, search for IPs downloading the torrent and ban them as well. CCP is no joke, their forums have stated that anyone even talking about it will get banned. Now, they could just mean getting banned from the forums, but I doubt anyone would risk it.

Reports are being posted that CCP is seeding the source code to trace IP addresses back to player accounts for banning. I hope they understand that some people do play through proxy servers and IP banning can ruin this for a lot of people. (continue reading…)

internet ban of selling virtual toons.

by The Uni-Hacker on Apr.12, 2008, under Gaming, Misc

The Internet has become full of virtual worlds and role playing games. These worlds and games usually require that you create a virtual character to train up to do various tasks. In EVE-Online you create a character by selecting skills to train, and setting even the looks. After that you get to pilot a space ship and go around shooting other space ships, it’s actually very fun.

Some characters that were created two or more years ago have many skills and can do a wide variety of things in the EVE game. The question comes up, what if a player wants to sell his mighty character to someone. It seems that many companies are cracking down on the reselling of virtual characters. (continue reading…)

Kubuntu EVE Online Linux Guide

by The Uni-Hacker on Apr.11, 2008, under Gaming, Misc

I have recently installed the Ubuntu ( Kubuntu ) 8.04 beta along with the EVE online Linux Client. It took a few trials and tests to get it working good but it is working and it’s smooth. This is just to give you some tips, it’s not meant to be a “howto” guide. I also assume you have already installed the .deb package and the game.

First you’ll want to make sure you have a 3D acceleration driver, I used the nvidia-glx(new) driver. When you reboot you should see the Nvidia splash screen, if you don’t see this then most likely you need to enable the driver through your system settings and then Monitor 7 Display.

Secondly I disabled the DXGrab option, which locks the mouse in the EVE client. I also disabled the Managed option, which gives window control to the window manager. I left this alone.

I run my game in windowed mode as well, just do you know.

The game runs smooth, I am actually fairly impressed.

Check out my screenshot below.
